A dull, grey morning, all them say. Whether it is a kind of pattern to start sad and melancholy stories, he was not interested to know. But it bothered him.

He dropped the book and snuggled in the chair. It was summer, but inside was cold. He closed his eyes, trying to see in the deepness of his sleep. Trying to find some reasons, some causes. He wrinkled his forehead, squeezed the closed eyes, but couldn’t sleep. Tried to relax, but that was hard too. Defeated, he crossed the room to the window. No sun could be seen in the sky, neither any cloud. Only the infinitive, dominant, brave blue.

Something was wrong, he supposed. Hadn’t he learned that a day like this come up and fades away with the same speed? Hadn’t he realized that this day could be the last in months, maybe years? Why, then, he was not outside, not in the beach, not with friends, not under a tree, not swimming in a lake, not walking in the yard, holding hands with Luce?

Luce…

The dewy wind of summer wraps him with kindness, wiping the diseases away. From atop where he sits, it is possible to see: The houses just in front, the further roofs right behind, the extensions of the forest, represented by some green and breathing trees, some little hills which give the landscape a wavy aspect, the valleys, and, squeezing the eyes, the lights of the cities beyond. It was still possible to check the blue stains of the horizon. It looks endless. It looks magical.

Yet it does not look magical for nothing. It is magical. There is, in the green and blue extensions of the land, places where magic is dominant, places where dragons fly with freedom, and where animals can talk and dance. No place in earth is more magical, and no place in earth seemed closer to him.

He was thinking about this when raising from the sofa, when walking to the open window and when staring the land. If there is such a place, he could reach it. No way of reaching it seemed easier than the one he was planning to follow right now.

Silently, he scrambled the iron of the rail until get stand up upon it. From there, the wind seemed kinder, almost too much kind. It gripped him against the air around, threatening to throw him down the deepness beneath him. But he had the control, raising upon his foot fingers, until get completely supported by them. From behind the earth, the sun threw ribbons of pink lights in the sky. The twilight beamed upon his face. It seemed to encourage him to do it.

If flying was the key to reach The Place, he could do it. He could feel the magic, the snarl of the beasts, and the whispering of the magicians. He could even feel his own power, craving to be used. Begging him to be freed, so it could act with its own will, regarded by him.

Calmly, he throw him self up to the air. He felt the magic acting, using him with kindness, like the wind. From this moment, nothing seemed closer than The Place, than its magic, than its reality.

A Sudden atraction coming from the ground and a violent thud was the last things he felt, before entering the place he always dreamed with.

The Walking Dead que o diga.
